OUR EVENTS

Physician assistants in both academic and professional stages of their career meet the criteria for or are at increased susceptibility for burnout and various mental health conditions. Our events are carefully curated to serve as primary prevention to build community, help PA students navigate these stressors and offer a positive outlet for students in all stages of their wellness journey.

Pick-Me-Ups

The high volume climate of PA school can increase risk of anxiety and burnout. When students need it most, HAWC will provide snacks, stress management activities, and confidence-boosting notes written by classmates to nourish their basic needs.

These times include:

  • First round of exams and finals for 1st and 2nd year students

  • First day of anatomy cadaver lab

  • End of Rotation (EOR) and End of Curriculum (EOC) exams for 3rd year students

Wellness Walk

Sponsored by the Emerald Necklace, this event jumpstarts the semester by encouraging students to develop habits of setting aside time dedicated to social and physical wellness. This event furthers a sense of community by introducing students to the greater Longwood area and welcoming them to the relaxing, outdoor setting the Emerald Necklace parks offer.

BYOB Acupuncture: 

Bring Your Own Blanket

Sponsored by Acupunture Center For Women

The ancient Eastern medicinal practice of auricular acupuncture is a non-invasive technique for managing  anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances. Dilation of the blood vessels reset the autonomic nervous system, largely responsible for breathing, heart rate, and digestion.

Off-campus events encouraging students to practice physical wellness in locations near campus. Locations include:

Therapy Dogs

Therapy dogs offer a valuable, calming and supportive presence for PA students away from loved ones at home. This event aims to hold events with therapy dogs in settings specific for PA students to help reduce stress and anxiety.

Paint & Sip

On-campus event welcoming all cohorts to a freestyle painting session. This event will offer light refreshments for students as they use art as a positive emotional outlet to express emotions, creativity. and artistic abilities.

Succulent Planting

An on-campus event welcoming students to plant and bring home their own succulent plant to cultivate emotional, social, and environmental wellness. Brining the succulent home will remind students of their resilience and a positive wellness experience shared with their peers.

Picnic With Your Pup

Students are welcome to enjoy a picnic on the Harvard Medical School lawn alongside their own or MCPHS faculty members' pups. Spending the time outdoors will be a perfect opportunity to reduce stress and focus on the present moment with their peers.

Grill Out

Students are welcome to connect in a non-classroom setting to enjoy light refreshments with their and participate in various lawn games such as Cornhole and Jenga with all three cohorts.
